Job Summary:
The Bankruptcy Paralegal will provide comprehensive support to the bankruptcy department within the Law and Criminal Justice division. The main responsibility of this role is to assist attorneys in all stages of the bankruptcy process, ensuring the efficient and effective handling of bankruptcy cases. The Bankruptcy Paralegal will play a crucial role in preparing and organizing legal documents, conducting legal research, and maintaining accurate case files. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a solid understanding of bankruptcy laws and procedures are essential for success in this role.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in preparing legal documents, including bankruptcy petitions, schedules, and pleadings.
- Conduct research on bankruptcy laws, regulations, and legal precedents to support case preparation.
- Review and analyze bankruptcy documents, financial statements, and other relevant records.
- Organize and maintain case files, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
- Coordinate and schedule appointments, hearings, and meetings related to bankruptcy cases.
- Communicate with clients, creditors, and court personnel to gather necessary information and update case status.
- Prepare and file bankruptcy forms, motions, and other legal documents with the court.
- Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings, trials, and meetings by organizing exhibits, witness lists, and other supporting materials.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in a professional and ethical manner.
- Stay updated on changes in bankruptcy laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with other paralegals and legal professionals to streamline processes and improve department efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies or a related field.
- Certified Paralegal (CP) designation is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a paralegal, with specific experience in bankruptcy law.
- Strong knowledge of bankruptcy laws, procedures, and legal terminology.
- Proficient in case management software and legal research tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
