Job Summary:
The Paralegal will provide comprehensive support to attorneys in the Law and Criminal Justice department. The successful candidate will assist in all phases of legal proceedings, maintain case files, conduct legal research, and draft legal documents under the supervision of licensed attorneys. The Paralegal will also interact with clients, witnesses, and other professionals to gather relevant information and ensure the smooth execution of legal processes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assisting attorneys in preparing legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, contracts, and agreements.
2. Conducting legal research using various resources to gather relevant information for ongoing cases and projects.
3. Organizing and maintaining case files, ensuring all necessary documentation is included and up-to-date.
4. Coordinating and scheduling appointments, hearings, and meetings for attorneys.
5. Liaising with clients, witnesses, and other professionals to gather information and coordinate case-related activities.
6. Preparing and filing legal documents with courts, government agencies, and other relevant entities.
7. Assisting attorneys during trials, hearings, and meetings by organizing exhibits, taking notes, and providing general support.
8. Compiling and analyzing data, statistics, and other information to support attorneys in their legal strategies.
9. Providing administrative support such as answering phone calls, responding to emails, and managing attorney calendars.
10. Maintaining confidentiality of client information and ensuring compliance with ethical and legal standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Law, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
2. Proven experience working as a Paralegal or in a similar role within a law firm or legal department.
3. Strong knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and principles.
4. Proficiency in conducting legal research using various databases and online resources.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and concise legal documents.
6. Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
7. Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in document preparation and case file management.
8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather and interpret complex legal information.
9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
10. Proficiency in using legal software and technology, including case management systems and research tools.
