Job Description: Law and Criminal Justice - Paralegal - Legal Aid Advocate
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Legal Aid Advocate to join our legal team. As a Paralegal specializing in Law and Criminal Justice, you will provide essential support to attorneys and assist in the delivery of legal aid services to our clients. The Legal Aid Advocate will primarily focus on assisting individuals with legal issues related to criminal justice matters, advocating for their rights, and ensuring access to justice.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough research on legal cases, statutes, regulations, and precedents to support attorneys in building strong legal arguments.
2. Assist in the preparation of legal documents, including briefs, motions, pleadings, and appeals, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal standards.
3. Collaborate closely with attorneys to gather and organize evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare for hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings.
4. Provide comprehensive legal aid to clients, including explanations of legal rights, available options, and potential outcomes.
5. Advocate for clients' rights and interests by attending court hearings, meetings, and negotiations on their behalf.
6. Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed case files, ensuring all relevant documents, correspondence, and records are properly organized and filed.
7. Assist attorneys in managing caseloads, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines effectively.
8. Maintain confidentiality of client information and adhere to ethical and professional standards of the legal profession.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Law, Criminal Justice, or related field.
2. Paralegal certification or equivalent experience in a legal environment.
3. In-depth knowledge of legal principles, procedures, and practices in the area of criminal justice.
4. Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather and interpret complex legal information accurately.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear and concise legal documents and client communications.
6. Proficiency in using legal research databases, case management software, and other relevant tools.
7. Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
8. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, clients, and other stakeholders.
9. Demonstrated commitment to social justice and providing legal aid services to underserved populations.
10. Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards in all aspects of the role.
