Job Summary:
The E-Discovery Specialist is responsible for assisting the legal team in the management and execution of electronic discovery (e-discovery) processes. This role requires strong technical skills, knowledge of e-discovery tools, and the ability to efficiently and accurately handle large volumes of electronically stored information (ESI) for legal matters related to law and criminal justice.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and other legal professionals to identify e-discovery requirements for specific cases or legal matters.
2. Develop and implement effective e-discovery strategies and workflows to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory guidelines.
3. Conduct thorough and systematic searches, collections, and preservation of ESI from various sources, including computer systems, email servers, databases, and cloud platforms.
4. Utilize e-discovery software and tools to process, analyze, review, and produce ESI, ensuring data integrity and maintaining chain of custody.
5. Assist in the creation and maintenance of document databases and repositories for e-discovery purposes.
6. Conduct quality control and quality assurance checks on processed data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
7. Prepare and produce accurate and comprehensive e-discovery reports, summaries, and timelines as required by legal professionals.
8. Stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in e-discovery, and make recommendations for process improvements.
9. Provide training and support to legal team members on e-discovery tools, processes, and protocols.
10. Maintain confidentiality and data security in handling sensitive and privileged information throughout the e-discovery process.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Law, Criminal Justice, or related field.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience as an E-Discovery Specialist or similar role within a law firm or legal department.
3. In-depth knowledge of e-discovery principles, practices, and legal requirements.
4. Familiarity with e-discovery software and tools, such as Relativity, Nuix, or similar platforms.
5. Proficiency in using data processing and review software, including advanced search techniques, filtering, and data culling.
6. Strong technical aptitude and ability to work with various operating systems, file formats, and data types.
7. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
8. Analytical mindset with the ability to quickly identify relevant information from large data sets.
9. Exceptional problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
10. Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with legal professionals and stakeholders.
11. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, taking ownership of assigned tasks and meeting deadlines.
12. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical conduct in handling sensitive information.
