Job Summary:
The Histotechnologist will play a critical role in our medical research department, specializing in histotechnology. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory procedures to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and research of diseases. They will collaborate closely with researchers, pathologists, and other laboratory staff to ensure accurate and timely delivery of results. The Histotechnologist will adhere to all relevant protocols, safety guidelines, and quality control standards to ensure the highest level of accuracy and efficiency in testing procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination by embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining specimens
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including microtomes, cryostats, tissue processors, and stainers
- Perform routine and specialized histological techniques, such as routine and special stains, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization
- Prepare and handle laboratory reagents and solutions, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and disposal
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory procedures, results, and quality control measures
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Troubleshoot technical issues and make appropriate adjustments to optimize test performance
- Collaborate with pathologists and researchers to provide technical expertise and support for research projects
- Participate in the development and validation of new laboratory procedures and techniques
- Stay up-to-date with advances in histotechnological practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or a related field
- Certification as a Histotechnologist by a recognized professional organization (e.g., ASCP, HTL/HT)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Histotechnologist or in a similar role
- Strong knowledge of histological techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining procedures
- Proficient in performing routine and specialized histological stains and immunohistochemistry techniques
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment, including microtomes, cryostats, automated tissue processors, and stainers
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address technical issues
- High level of professionalism and ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Commitment to adhering to quality control standards and laboratory safety protocols
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
