Job Summary:
The Wildlife Conservation Policy Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the development and implementation of wildlife conservation policies and initiatives. This position requires a deep understanding of agriculture and environmental science, with a focus on wildlife conservation. The Wildlife Conservation Policy Specialist is responsible for conducting research, analyzing data, and providing expert recommendations to ensure the protection and sustainable management of wildlife populations and their habitats.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive research on wildlife conservation policies, regulations, and best practices at local, national, and international levels.
- Collaborate with the Wildlife Conservation Policy Manager to develop and implement strategies for wildlife conservation projects and programs.
- Evaluate the impact of existing policies on wildlife populations and habitats, and propose necessary enhancements or modifications.
- Analyze scientific data, ecological research, and socioeconomic factors to inform policy decisions and conservation planning.
- Engage with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities, to gather input and build partnerships to support wildlife conservation efforts.
- Prepare reports, policy briefs, and presentations summarizing research findings and policy recommendations.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of wildlife conservation policies and initiatives, and provide guidance on potential improvements.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in wildlife conservation science, policy, and technology, and contribute to the development of innovative approaches within the field.
- Contribute to the drafting and review of legislation, regulations, and international agreements related to wildlife conservation.
- Provide expert advice and support to internal and external stakeholders on matters related to wildlife conservation policy.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Wildlife Conservation, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of wildlife conservation policies, regulations, and best practices.
- Proficient in conducting research, data analysis, and interpretation of scientific literature.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise reports and presentations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with a keen eye for detail and the ability to synthesize complex information.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of socioeconomic factors influencing wildlife conservation efforts is preferred.
- Familiarity with international wildlife conservation frameworks and agreements is an advantage.
- Experience in policy advocacy, legislation drafting, or working with government agencies is desirable.
