Job Description: Park Ranger - Law and Criminal Justice
Position Overview:
The Park Ranger, under the Law and Criminal Justice department, is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and protection of park visitors, facilities, and natural resources. This role requires strong knowledge of criminal justice principles and practices, along with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Enforce park regulations and laws to maintain order and protect park visitors, wildlife, and natural resources.
2. Conduct patrols, surveillance, and investigations to prevent and detect any criminal activities within the park.
3. Respond promptly to emergencies, accidents, and incidents, providing immediate assistance and coordinating with emergency services when necessary.
4. Assist in search and rescue operations, including locating missing persons and providing first aid or emergency medical care as required.
5. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, such as local police departments, to ensure effective coordination and mutual support during law enforcement operations.
6. Provide information and assistance to park visitors, including answering inquiries, giving directions, and educating visitors about park rules and regulations.
7. Conduct regular inspections of park facilities, including buildings, trails, and equipment, reporting any damages, maintenance needs, or safety concerns.
8. Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records of incidents, accidents, and law enforcement activities, ensuring compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
9. Participate in training programs and stay updated with the latest developments in law enforcement techniques, emergency response, and park management practices.
10. Assist in the development and implementation of park security plans, emergency response protocols, and risk management strategies.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field.
2. Proven experience in law enforcement or a related field, preferably in a park or outdoor recreational setting.
3. Sound knowledge of criminal justice principles, law enforcement techniques, and emergency response procedures.
4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of individuals, including park visitors and law enforcement personnel.
5. Excellent problem-solving abilities to handle emergencies and make critical decisions under pressure.
6. Physical fitness and the ability to perform strenuous activities, including hiking, climbing, and carrying heavy equipment.
7. Proficiency in using various law enforcement equipment, such as firearms, handcuffs, and communication devices.
8. Sound judgment and ethical conduct to maintain confidentiality, uphold laws and regulations, and handle sensitive information appropriately.
9. Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
10. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings, as required.
