Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Corrections Counselor. As a Corrections Counselor, you will be responsible for providing counseling services to incarcerated individuals within our correctional facility. You will work closely with the inmate population, assisting in their rehabilitation, reintegration, and personal growth. This role requires a strong understanding of criminal justice, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to establish a rapport with individuals in a correctional setting.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct individual counseling sessions with inmates to address their emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges
- Assess and evaluate inmates' histories, needs, and treatment goals using standardized assessment tools
- Develop and implement personalized treatment plans for each inmate, focusing on their areas of concern and facilitating their rehabilitation process
- Provide guidance and support to inmates in areas such as anger management, substance abuse, mental health, and conflict resolution
- Collaborate with other correctional staff, including probation officers, social workers, and psychologists, to ensure a comprehensive approach to inmate counseling and rehabilitation
- Conduct regular group therapy sessions to address common issues and promote positive behavioral changes among inmates
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of counseling sessions, treatment plans, and progress notes
- Monitor and track inmate progress throughout their incarceration, adjusting treatment plans as necessary
- Participate in case conferences and team meetings to discuss inmate progress, treatment strategies, and potential challenges
- Stay updated on current developments in the field of corrections and counseling through continuous professional development and training opportunities
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
- Minimum of X years of experience working in a counseling or corrections environment
- Solid understanding of the criminal justice system and its impact on individuals
- Knowledge of evidence-based counseling techniques and interventions
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish trust and rapport with diverse individuals, including those with a history of criminal behavior
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely
- Empathy and compassion, coupled with the ability to maintain professional boundaries
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team setting
- Proficiency in using computer systems and software applications for documentation and reporting purposes
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in all aspects of the job
