Job Summary:
The Animal Control Officer is responsible for enforcing animal control regulations, ensuring public safety, and promoting the welfare of animals within the jurisdiction. This role involves responding to calls and complaints related to animals, investigating animal-related incidents, and enforcing applicable laws and ordinances. The Animal Control Officer also assists in capturing and providing care for stray, injured, or dangerous animals, as well as educating the public about responsible pet ownership.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Respond to animal control calls and complaints promptly and efficiently.
2. Investigate incidents involving animals, such as bites, animal cruelty, and neglect, and take appropriate action.
3. Enforce animal control laws, regulations, and ordinances to ensure public safety and animal welfare.
4. Capture, restrain, and transport stray, injured, or dangerous animals, using appropriate techniques and equipment.
5. Provide care and shelter for impounded animals, ensuring their well-being and basic needs are met.
6. Educate the public on responsible pet ownership, animal control regulations, and the prevention of animal-related incidents.
7. Issue warnings, citations, and notices of violations to individuals found in violation of animal control regulations.
8. Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to animal control activities.
9. Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, animal shelters, and veterinary professionals as necessary.
10. Attend trainings, workshops, and professional development opportunities to stay updated on animal control best practices and regulations.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
3. Minimum of [X] years of experience in animal control, law enforcement, or a related field.
4. Knowledge of animal control laws, regulations, and ordinances.
