Job Summary:
The Substitute Paraprofessional will provide essential support and assistance to teachers and students within the educational setting. As a substitute, the paraprofessional will be responsible for maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring the safety and well-being of students, and assisting in the implementation of instructional plans and activities. The incumbent must possess exceptional organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to adapt quickly to varying classroom environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist students with daily tasks, including personal hygiene, mobility, and feeding, as required.
- Support students in their academic pursuits, providing one-on-one or group assistance as directed by the teacher.
- Implement behavior management strategies to promote a positive learning environment, reinforcing appropriate behavior and redirecting students when necessary.
- Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide support during classroom activities, including instructional sessions, group projects, and extracurricular activities.
- Monitor and supervise students during recess, lunch breaks, and other non-instructional periods, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Assist in the setup and organization of classroom materials, resources, and technology required for instructional purposes.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and behavior, reporting any concerns or observations to the teacher or appropriate school personnel.
- Collaborate with other paraprofessionals and staff members to foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
- Adhere to school policies and procedures, including those related to student confidentiality, safety, and ethical conduct.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional relevant certifications or post-secondary education is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in working with children or adolescents in an educational or similar setting is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with students, teachers, and parents.
- Basic knowledge of educational techniques, principles, and strategies.
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively within a team.
- Patience, empathy, and understanding of diverse learning needs and abilities.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in different classroom environments and support various grade levels and subjects.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift or assist in the movement of students with mobility challenges.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment.
