Position Overview:
The Merchandising Data Privacy Officer is responsible for ensuring the protection and privacy of all merchandising data within our retail and sales organization. This role plays a critical part in maintaining compliance with data protection regulations, establishing and implementing data privacy policies, and driving awareness and accountability regarding data privacy practices. The Merchandising Data Privacy Officer will work closely with cross-functional teams to promote a culture of data privacy and security throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement comprehensive data privacy policies, procedures, and guidelines for the merchandising department.
2. Monitor and assess compliance with applicable data protection laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
3. Review and evaluate existing processes and systems to identify potential privacy risks and recommend appropriate measures to mitigate those risks.
4. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure that data privacy considerations are integrated into the design and implementation of new merchandising initiatives and systems.
5. Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify and remediate privacy vulnerabilities, ensuring adherence to privacy policies and procedures.
6. Serve as the primary point of contact for data privacy-related inquiries, complaints, and incidents, and manage the resolution process in a timely and effective manner.
7. Develop and deliver data privacy training and awareness programs to enhance employees' understanding and compliance with data protection regulations.
8. Stay up to date with emerging privacy laws, regulations, and industry trends, and adapt policies and practices accordingly.
9. Collaborate with the legal team to review and negotiate data protection contractual clauses with third-party vendors.
10. Act as a subject matter expert on data privacy matters, providing guidance and support to cross-functional teams as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Information Technology, or Law.
2. Proven experience (X years) working as a Data Privacy Officer or in a similar role, preferably within a retail or sales environment.
3. Strong knowledge of data protection laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and their practical application within a merchandising context.
4. In-depth understanding of data privacy principles, best practices, and industry standards.
5. Familiarity with retail and sales merchandising processes, systems, and technologies.
6. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and develop appropriate solutions.
7. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate complex privacy concepts to diverse audiences.
8. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
9. Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
10. Professional certifications in data privacy (e.g., Certified Information Privacy Professional, Certified Information Privacy Manager) are highly desirable.
