Position Summary:
The Audiovisual Archivist will be responsible for managing and preserving audiovisual collections within the Library and Information Science department. This role involves developing and implementing effective archiving strategies, digitizing and cataloging audiovisual materials, and ensuring their long-term accessibility and usability. The Audiovisual Archivist will work closely with other archivists and library staff to accomplish these tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement archiving strategies for audiovisual materials, including films, videos, audio recordings, and other multimedia formats.
2. Digitize and preserve audiovisual materials using industry-standard equipment and software.
3. Conduct thorough cataloging and metadata creation for audiovisual materials, adhering to established standards and best practices.
4. Maintain an accurate inventory of audiovisual collections, ensuring proper storage, handling, and security measures are in place.
5. Collaborate with other archivists and library staff to provide access to audiovisual collections, both onsite and online.
6. Conduct research and assist users in locating and accessing audiovisual materials, providing expert guidance and support.
7. Develop and deliver training sessions to staff and users on audiovisual archiving techniques and best practices.
8. Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in audiovisual archiving, recommending and implementing improvements to workflows and processes.
9. Collaborate with external partners, such as vendors, donors, and researchers, to acquire, donate, or loan audiovisual materials.
10. Participate in professional development activities, including attending conferences and workshops related to audiovisual archiving.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, Archive Management, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
2. Demonstrated experience in audiovisual archiving, including digitization, cataloging, preservation, and access.
3. Proficient knowledge of archival principles, practices, and standards, particularly as they apply to audiovisual collections.
4. Familiarity with digitization equipment, software, and best practices for audiovisual materials.
5. Strong understanding of metadata standards and cataloging rules, such as Dublin Core, PBCore, and MARC.
6. Proficiency in archival management systems and databases.
7. Ability to handle and care for delicate and fragile audiovisual materials, following preservation guidelines.
8. Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to organize and interpret complex information.
9. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in cataloging, labeling, and inventory management.
10. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
11. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
12. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
