Job Description: Data Governance Coordinator (Library and Information Science - Information Management)
Position Summary:
The Data Governance Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and implementing effective data governance strategies and processes within the organization. This role requires a strong understanding of library and information science principles, information management practices, and data governance frameworks. The Data Governance Coordinator will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure data integrity, compliance, and security, while promoting efficient and ethical data management practices across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement data governance policies, procedures, and standards to ensure the consistent and accurate management of organizational data.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data governance goals, objectives, and strategies aligned with organizational priorities.
3. Conduct regular assessments to identify data governance gaps and propose solutions to address them effectively.
4. Establish and enforce data quality standards, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across systems and databases.
5. Monitor data usage and access controls, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and data protection laws.
6. Identify and mitigate data privacy and security risks, implementing appropriate controls and measures to safeguard sensitive and confidential information.
7. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop and deliver data governance training programs to enhance data literacy and compliance across the organization.
8. Participate in data-related projects, providing expertise and guidance on data governance best practices.
9. Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to data governance, and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
10. Serve as a subject matter expert on data governance, providing guidance and support to stakeholders across the organization.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, Information Management, or a related field.
2. Proven experience in data governance, information management, or a similar role, preferably in a library or academic setting.
3. Strong knowledge of library and information science principles, including metadata management, classification, indexing, and taxonomy.
4. Familiarity with data governance frameworks, such as DAMA-DMBOK or COBIT, and experience implementing data governance strategies.
5. Proficient in data quality management practices, data analysis, and data profiling techniques.
6. Excellent understanding of data privacy and security regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, or other relevant laws.
7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify data governance gaps and propose effective solutions.
8. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex concepts to stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
9. Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams, building relationships, and influencing stakeholders to drive data governance initiatives.
10. Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines efficiently.
