Position Summary:
The Information Technology (IT) Consultant for Library and Information Science > Information Management will be responsible for providing expert-level guidance and support in the planning, implementation, and management of IT systems within library and information science settings. This role requires a deep understanding of library operations, information management principles, and technological advancements to deliver efficient, secure, and user-focused IT solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with library staff, management, and stakeholders to identify IT requirements and develop strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
2. Conduct thorough assessments of existing IT infrastructure, systems, and services to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
3. Provide expert advice and recommendations on IT-related projects, including hardware and software acquisitions, system upgrades, and technology integrations.
4. Design and implement efficient information management systems, ensuring seamless access, retrieval, and preservation of digital resources.
5. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system configurations, network diagrams, and user manuals, to support staff training and troubleshooting processes.
6. Monitor and evaluate IT infrastructure performance, identifying and resolving issues to ensure system reliability and data security.
7. Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in library and information science, and make recommendations for their adoption.
8. Collaborate with external vendors, contractors, and IT service providers to ensure effective project delivery and service level agreements.
9. Provide technical guidance and support to library staff and users, resolving complex IT-related queries and issues in a timely manner.
10. Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance staff's IT skills and promote effective utilization of technology resources.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A Master's degree is highly desirable.
2. Proven experience in managing IT systems within library or information science environments.
3. Strong knowledge of information management principles, metadata standards, and digital preservation methods.
4. Proficiency in designing and implementing IT solutions, including hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
5. Demonstrated expertise in system analysis, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.
6. Familiarity with library-specific software and platforms, such as Integrated Library Systems (ILS), Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems, and OpenURL resolvers.
7. Knowledge of emerging technologies in library and information science, including cloud computing, data analytics, and machine learning.
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and engage with diverse stakeholders.
9. Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality results.
