Job Summary:
The Dance Company Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the operations of a dance company. They will work closely with the artistic director, choreographers, and dancers to ensure the smooth functioning of rehearsals, performances, and administrative processes. This role requires a highly organized individual with excellent communication and leadership skills, as well as a deep understanding of the dance industry.
Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with the artistic director to develop and implement strategic plans and artistic visions for the dance company.
2. Coordinate and manage the daily operations of the dance company, including scheduling rehearsals, performances, and other related events.
3. Oversee budgeting and financial management of the dance company, including monitoring expenses, negotiating contracts, and preparing financial reports.
4. Manage and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including partnering organizations, venues, and sponsors.
5. Recruit, hire, and manage administrative staff, dancers, and other personnel as needed.
6. Coordinate and oversee the production of dance performances, including stage design, lighting, costumes, and sound.
7. Develop and implement marketing and promotional strategies to enhance the visibility and reputation of the dance company.
8. Ensure compliance with legal and safety regulations, including copyright laws, licensing requirements, and insurance coverage.
9. Provide guidance and support to dancers and artistic staff, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.
10. Stay updated on industry trends, attend conferences, and network with professionals to enhance the dance company's artistic value and reputation.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in dance, arts management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Proven experience in managing dance companies or similar arts organizations.
3. Strong knowledge and passion for various dance forms and the performing arts industry.
4. Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
5. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
6. Proficient in financial management, budgeting, and reporting.
7. Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a track record of motivating and inspiring teams.
8. Knowledge of marketing and promotional strategies specific to the dance industry.
9. Familiarity with technical aspects of dance production, including stage design, lighting, costumes, and sound.
10. Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
11. Proficient computer skills, including MS Office and dance-specific software.
12. Knowledge of legal and safety regulations related to dance performances.
13. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
