Job Summary:
The Choreographer is responsible for creating, designing, and orchestrating dance movements and routines for various performances within the entertainment and performing arts industry. They will collaborate closely with directors, producers, and dancers to ensure the successful execution of choreography that aligns with the artistic vision of the production. The Choreographer will demonstrate exceptional creativity, technical knowledge, and leadership skills to deliver outstanding dance performances.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and create original choreography for dance performances, including but not limited to stage shows, musicals, films, and events.
2. Collaborate with artistic directors, producers, and other creative team members to understand the artistic concept and vision of the production.
3. Conduct auditions and select dancers based on their skills, experience, and suitability for specific choreographed pieces.
4. Teach and train dancers in complex dance routines, ensuring they understand the choreography and execute it with precision and artistry.
5. Rehearse and coordinate dance sequences, ensuring seamless integration with other aspects of the production, such as music, lighting, and set design.
6. Provide guidance and feedback to dancers to enhance their performance quality, technique, and expression.
7. Adapt and modify choreography as required to accommodate changes in production elements, performer abilities, or artistic direction.
8. Stay updated on current dance trends, techniques, and styles, integrating them into choreography to maintain relevance and audience appeal.
9. Collaborate with costume designers and stage technicians to ensure that choreography aligns with the overall visual and technical aspects of the production.
10. Attend production meetings and rehearsals to discuss progress, address concerns, and offer creative input.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Dance, Performing Arts, or a related field. Relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
2. Proven experience as a Choreographer in the entertainment and performing arts industry.
3. Exceptional knowledge and understanding of various dance styles, techniques, and genres, including contemporary, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and cultural dances.
4. Strong creativity and artistic vision, with the ability to generate innovative and captivating choreography that enhances storytelling.
5. Excellent leadership and communication skills to effectively instruct and guide dancers, ensuring a cohesive and synchronized performance.
6. Demonstrated ability to adapt and modify choreography based on artistic direction, performer abilities, or production changes.
7. Proficiency in music interpretation and the ability to synchronize movements with musical cues and rhythms.
8. Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and manage multiple dance routines simultaneously.
9. Flexibility and ability to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on production schedules.
10. Physical fitness and stamina to demonstrate dance moves and actively engage in rehearsals and performances.
