Job Summary:
The Dance Researcher is responsible for conducting comprehensive research and analysis in the field of dance, with a focus on historical, cultural, and artistic aspects. This role requires a deep understanding and appreciation of various dance forms, as well as the ability to critically evaluate and interpret dance-related materials. The Dance Researcher will contribute valuable insights and knowledge to support the development of dance productions, educational programs, and scholarly publications.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform in-depth research on diverse dance genres, styles, and movements, including their historical, cultural, and social contexts.
2. Gather and analyze information from a wide range of sources, such as books, academic journals, online publications, archival records, and interviews with experts in the field.
3. Examine and evaluate dance-related materials, including choreographies, performances, dance notation systems, and audiovisual recordings.
4. Document and organize research findings in a clear, concise, and accurate manner to facilitate knowledge sharing and future reference.
5. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including choreographers, dancers, educators, and writers, to contribute dance research insights and support creative processes.
6. Provide expertise and guidance in the selection and interpretation of dance-related materials for educational programs, exhibitions, and performances.
7. Stay abreast of current trends, innovations, and advancements in the field of dance through continuous learning and professional development activities.
8. Contribute to the development and enhancement of dance research methodologies and approaches.
9. Support the preparation and delivery of presentations, lectures, and workshops related to dance research.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Dance, Performing Arts, Dance History, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
2. Proven experience and expertise in dance research, including a strong understanding of dance theory, history, and various dance forms.
3. Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather, interpret, and synthesize information from multiple sources.
4. Proficient in using research tools and databases to access relevant academic literature and resources.
5. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts effectively.
6. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
8. Knowledge of dance notation systems and experience in analyzing choreographic scores is preferred.
9. Familiarity with digital research tools and online dance archives would be an asset.
10. Passion for dance and a genuine interest in exploring its historical, cultural, and artistic dimensions.
