Job Description: Production Accountant - Entertainment and Performing Arts
Role Summary:
The Production Accountant is a vital member of the Film Production team, responsible for overseeing financial aspects of film projects. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and superb organizational skills to ensure accurate and efficient management of production budgets and financial records. The Production Accountant collaborates closely with the production team, including the Line Producer, Production Manager, and other department heads, to ensure financial compliance and provide timely financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage production budgets, including the creation of initial budget drafts and ongoing tracking and reporting throughout the production process.
- Monitor expenditures to ensure adherence to approved budgets, analyzing and addressing any variances that may arise.
- Prepare and submit accurate cost reports, financial statements, and cash flow projections to the production team, producers, and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Production Manager to handle vendor contracts, negotiate rates, and process payments accurately and on time.
- Maintain comprehensive records of financial transactions, invoices, and receipts, ensuring compliance with industry standards and relevant tax regulations.
- Track and reconcile petty cash, credit card expenses, and other financial disbursements, providing accurate and timely reports to the production team.
- Liaise with the Line Producer and Production Manager to ensure timely processing of payroll for cast and crew, ensuring compliance with employment laws and union regulations.
- Collaborate with the Production Coordinator to oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice verification and payment processing.
- Assist in preparing financial documentation required for audits, tax filings, and insurance purposes.
- Stay updated on industry financial practices, regulations, and tax incentives to ensure adherence to industry standards and maximize financial efficiency.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Production Accountant in the entertainment industry, preferably within film production.
- Strong knowledge of film production accounting practices, including budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
- Proficient in using industry-standard accounting software and related tools, such as Movie Magic Budgeting, EP Smart Accounting, or similar applications.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to accurately manage and interpret financial data.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational abilities to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- In-depth understanding of relevant tax regulations, union agreements, and legal requirements within the entertainment industry.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
- Proven ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and problem-solve effectively.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
