Job Description: Grip (Entertainment and Performing Arts - Film Production)
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Grip to join our film production team. As a Grip, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our film sets. Your primary responsibility will be to assist the Director of Photography (DP) in setting up and maintaining equipment related to camera support, lighting, and rigging. This position requires a strong attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with the Director of Photography (DP) to understand and execute their vision for camera support, lighting, and rigging.
2. Assist in setting up and maintaining camera support equipment, including tripods, dollies, cranes, and jibs.
3. Rig and secure lighting equipment such as light stands, flags, scrims, and diffusion panels.
4. Safely handle and operate equipment such as C-stands, grip clamps, sandbags, and other necessary tools.
5. Take part in the loading and unloading of equipment trucks, ensuring that all gear is safely transported and stored.
6. Support the DP in managing and adjusting lighting setups to achieve desired visual effects.
7. Collaborate with other crew members, such as camera operators and gaffers, to ensure effective communication and coordination during shoots.
8. Troubleshoot technical issues related to camera support and lighting equipment, seeking timely solutions to minimize disruptions.
9. Maintain a clean and organized working environment, including proper storage and organization of equipment.
10. Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, ensuring the well-being of yourself, your team, and the cast and crew.
Qualifications:
1. Proven experience working as a Grip in the film industry.
2. Strong knowledge of camera support equipment, lighting techniques, and rigging procedures.
3. Proficiency in operating and maintaining various grip tools and equipment.
4. Excellent physical strength and stamina, capable of lifting heavy objects and working in physically demanding conditions.
5. Ability to adapt and work efficiently in fast-paced and time-sensitive environments.
6. Outstanding problem-solving skills, with the ability to think on your feet and find practical solutions.
7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, promoting collaboration and teamwork.
8. Demonstrated understanding of safety protocols and practices related to grip work.
9. Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by production schedules.
