Job Summary:
The Orthopedic Technician will be responsible for providing specialized clinical support within the Sports Medicine department, specifically in orthopedic practices. The incumbent will assist orthopedic surgeons and other medical professionals in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. The Orthopedic Technician will work closely with the orthopedic team to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Assist orthopedic surgeons and medical professionals in the evaluation and treatment of patients with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.
- Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas, ensuring cleanliness and availability of necessary equipment and supplies.
- Assist in the application, adjustment, and removal of casts, splints, braces, and other orthopedic devices.
- Perform basic wound care, including suture and staple removal, dressing changes, and application of sterile techniques.
- Take and record patient vital signs, height, weight, and other relevant measurements.
- Support orthopedic surgeons during procedures, including preparing surgical instruments, maintaining a sterile field, and providing assistance as required.
- Educate and instruct patients on proper care and use of orthopedic devices, ensuring they fully understand treatment plans and follow-up procedures.
- Coordinate patient appointments, including scheduling surgeries, diagnostic tests, and follow-up visits.
- Document patient information, medical histories, and treatment plans accurately and in compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care and effective communication between departments.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control measures to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for patients and staff.
- Stay updated with current trends and advancements in orthopedic techniques and technologies through continuous professional development.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification or training in orthopedic technology is preferred.
- Proven experience as an Orthopedic Technician or similar role within a healthcare setting, preferably in sports medicine.
- Sound knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy, orthopedic surgical procedures, and orthopedic devices.
- Proficient in applying and removing casts, splints, braces, and other orthopedic devices.
- Strong understanding of sterile techniques and infection control protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patients, medical professionals, and other team members.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities, with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient computer skills, including electronic medical record systems.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to assist with patient transfers, lifting, and positioning.
