Job Summary:
The Forensic Anthropology Technician plays a crucial role in assisting the Forensic Anthropologist in conducting scientific examinations, analyses, and investigations related to skeletal remains and human remains recovery. The Technician will work collaboratively with a team of professionals to contribute to the identification, analysis, and interpretation of evidence in forensic anthropology cases. This role requires a strong understanding of forensic anthropology principles and techniques, as well as excellent organizational and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Forensic Anthropologist in the recovery and documentation of human skeletal remains.
- Participating in the processing, cleaning, and preservation of skeletal remains and associated evidence.
- Assisting in the establishment of a biological profile of the deceased, including estimating age, sex, ancestry, and stature.
- Collaborating with the Forensic Anthropologist to create detailed reports documenting findings and analysis.
- Assisting in the interpretation of skeletal trauma, pathology, and other identifying features.
- Providing support during courtroom proceedings by assisting in preparing exhibits, providing expert testimony, and explaining forensic anthropology findings to legal professionals and jurors.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all case-related activities and observations.
- Ensuring compliance with established protocols, procedures, and ethical standards in the handling and analysis of remains.
- Continuously staying updated with advancements in forensic anthropology techniques and attending relevant training sessions and workshops.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Forensic Anthropology, Biological Anthropology, or a closely related field.
- Strong knowledge of human skeletal anatomy, osteology, and forensic anthropology principles.
- Proficient in the use of anthropological and forensic tools, equipment, and software.
- Familiarity with crime scene investigation techniques and protocols.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret complex skeletal remains.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in all aspects of work.
- Effective communication skills both written and verbal, with the ability to present scientific findings clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by caseload and court schedules.
