Job Summary:
The Mounted Police Officer is responsible for ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order within designated areas. This role involves patrolling assigned areas on horseback, responding to emergencies, enforcing laws and regulations, and providing assistance and support to other law enforcement personnel. The Mounted Police Officer plays a vital role in community engagement and enhancing public trust through proactive community policing efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patrol assigned areas on horseback, maintain high visibility, and deter criminal activity.
2. Respond to emergency calls, disturbances, and incidents, ensuring public safety, and taking appropriate action as per departmental guidelines.
3. Enforce laws and regulations, including traffic rules, in a fair and impartial manner.
4. Conduct proactive policing activities to prevent crime, such as surveillance, community outreach, and educational initiatives.
5. Provide support to other law enforcement personnel during large-scale events, protests, and demonstrations.
6. Conduct investigations, gather evidence, and prepare detailed reports as necessary.
7. Assist in the search and rescue operations, crowd control, and maintaining order during public gatherings.
8. Attend community meetings, events, and schools to engage with the public, address concerns, and promote positive relationships between the police and the community.
9. Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of horses, equipment, and vehicles to ensure their operational readiness.
10. Attend and participate in training sessions, workshops, and seminars to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
2. High school diploma or equivalent education.
3. Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.
4. Completion of a certified police academy program.
5. Minimum of three years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer.
6. Proficient horseback riding skills with the ability to handle and control horses in various environments and situations.
7. Strong knowledge of law enforcement procedures, criminal justice system, and applicable laws and regulations.
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with the public and colleagues.
9. Ability to handle high-stress situations and make quick decisions while maintaining composure.
10. Physical fitness and ability to perform duties effectively while mounted, including sitting for extended periods, bending, lifting, and maneuvering horses.
11. Knowledge of first aid and CPR procedures.
12. Ability to work flexible schedules, including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
