Job Purpose:
The Game Warden is responsible for enforcing laws and regulations related to fish and wildlife conservation and ensuring public safety within designated areas. This role involves patrolling assigned areas, conducting investigations, and collaborating with law enforcement agencies to protect and preserve natural resources.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Enforce fish and wildlife laws: Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding hunting, fishing, trapping, and boating activities.
2. Patrol assigned areas: Conduct routine patrols in designated regions to detect and prevent violations of wildlife laws and regulations.
3. Investigate violations: Conduct investigations and gather evidence related to suspected violations, including interviewing witnesses, collecting physical evidence, and documenting findings.
4. Issue citations and warnings: Administer appropriate penalties, including issuing citations, warnings, and fines for violations of wildlife laws.
5. Conduct search and rescue operations: Coordinate and participate in search and rescue missions to locate lost or injured individuals in wilderness areas.
6. Educate the public: Provide guidance and education to the public regarding wildlife conservation, hunting and fishing regulations, and safety practices.
7. Respond to emergencies: Respond promptly to emergency situations, including accidents, natural disasters, and wildlife-related incidents.
8. Coordinate with law enforcement agencies: Collaborate with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to address wildlife-related crimes and ensure public safety.
9. Maintain records and prepare reports: Document all activities, incidents, and investigations accurately and prepare detailed reports for administrative and legal purposes.
10. Testify in court: Present evidence and testify in court proceedings related to wildlife law violations, as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Wildlife Management, or a related field.
2. Law enforcement experience: Minimum of two years of experience in law enforcement, preferably with a focus on wildlife conservation or natural resources.
3. Knowledge of wildlife laws and regulations: Strong understanding of local, state, and federal wildlife laws and regulations, including hunting and fishing regulations.
4. Investigative skills: Proficient in conducting investigations, gathering evidence, and interviewing witnesses to build strong cases.
5. Physical fitness: Ability to work in various outdoor environments and endure physically demanding tasks, including hiking, climbing, and operating watercraft.
6. Firearms proficiency: Skilled in the safe handling and use of firearms, as required for law enforcement purposes.
7. Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with the public, colleagues, and other law enforcement agencies.
8. Problem-solving abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess situations, make quick decisions, and respond appropriately.
9. Valid driver's license: Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
10. Interpersonal skills: Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders, including the public, fellow officers, and agency personnel.
