Job Summary:
The Narcotics Officer is responsible for enforcing laws and regulations related to narcotics and controlled substances within a designated jurisdiction. This role requires conducting investigations, gathering evidence, making arrests, and participating in the prosecution of offenders involved in drug-related activities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct proactive investigations and surveillance to identify, target, and gather evidence against individuals or organizations involved in the manufacturing, distribution, sale, or transportation of illegal drugs.
2. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, including local, state, and federal authorities, to coordinate efforts in combating narcotics-related crimes.
3. Execute search warrants, seize illegal substances, and secure evidence in accordance with established protocols and legal requirements.
4. Interview witnesses, suspects, and informants to obtain intelligence, gather information, and build cases against drug offenders.
5. Maintain accurate and detailed records of investigations, arrests, seizures, and other relevant activities, ensuring adherence to departmental procedures.
6. Testify in court proceedings and present evidence to support prosecution efforts, ensuring compliance with legal standards and procedures.
7. Provide support and assistance to other law enforcement personnel during drug-related investigations and operations.
8. Stay informed about current drug trends, emerging narcotics, and new techniques employed by drug traffickers through continuous training and professional development.
9. Participate in community outreach programs to educate the public on the dangers of drug abuse and promote drug prevention initiatives.
10. Collaborate with educational institutions, community organizations, and treatment facilities to develop and implement drug prevention and rehabilitation programs.
Qualifications:
1. Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent. A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field is preferred.
2. Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification or equivalent, issued by an accredited law enforcement academy.
3. Experience: Minimum of [X] years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer, with a focus on narcotics investigations preferred.

7. Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination, drug screening, and psychological evaluation.
