Job Summary:
The Airport Police Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all individuals at the airport premises. They enforce laws, regulations, and airport policies to prevent criminal activities, ensure public safety, and provide assistance to airport staff and passengers. The Airport Police Officer is expected to exercise good judgment, remain calm under pressure, and act swiftly and decisively in emergency situations.
Responsibilities:
1. Patrol designated areas of the airport to deter criminal activities, violations of laws, and violations of airport regulations.
2. Monitor and investigate suspicious activities, persons, or vehicles to prevent security breaches.
3. Respond promptly to emergency situations such as accidents, medical incidents, security threats, and disturbances.
4. Detain and arrest individuals involved in criminal activities, and prepare necessary reports and documentation.
5. Conduct thorough investigations of criminal incidents, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare detailed reports for further action.
6. Provide assistance and guidance to airport staff, visitors, and passengers by addressing their concerns, answering questions, and providing directions.
7. Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, including local, state, and federal authorities, to ensure effective coordination and execution of security measures.
8. Operate and maintain security equipment, including firearms, handcuffs, radios, surveillance systems, and emergency response vehicles.
9. Participate in training programs to update knowledge of laws, regulations, emergency procedures, and law enforcement techniques.
10. Maintain accurate records of incidents, arrests, and daily activities in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent. Associate's or bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field is preferred.
2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
3. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
4. Minimum age of 21 years at the time of application.
5. Successful completion of a certified police academy and possess a valid Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certificate.
6. Prior experience in law enforcement, preferably in a similar role or within an airport environment, is desirable.
7. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, as well as airport regulations and security procedures.
8. Excellent physical condition with the ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including running, lifting, and restraining individuals.
9. Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and act calmly and responsibly in high-pressure situations.
10. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse individuals and diffuse potentially volatile situations.
11. Ability to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
12. No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.
13. Successful completion of background checks, drug screenings, and psychological evaluations.
