Position: Civil Law Paralegal
Department: Law and Criminal Justice
Reports to: Civil Law Attorney
Job Summary:
The Civil Law Paralegal will provide high-quality legal support and assistance to attorneys specializing in civil law cases. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of legal tasks, including conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, organizing case files, and assisting in trial preparation. The Civil Law Paralegal must possess a strong understanding of civil law procedures and possess excellent organizational and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct legal research using various resources to gather relevant case law, statutes, regulations, and legal precedents.
2. Assist attorneys in drafting and preparing legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and affidavits.
3. Organize and maintain case files, ensuring all documents are properly filed and easily accessible.
4. Assist in the preparation of trial materials, exhibits, and witness lists.
5. Coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel to schedule hearings, depositions, and meetings.
6. Review and summarize deposition transcripts, pleadings, and other legal documents to assist attorneys in case strategy.
7. Collaborate with attorneys to prepare for trial, including organizing trial binders, coordinating witness interviews, and drafting trial briefs.
8. Attend court proceedings and trials to provide support to attorneys, including taking notes and assisting with exhibit management.
9. Utilize legal software and databases to manage and track case information, deadlines, and document production.
10. Maintain strict confidentiality of all client and case-related information.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies or related field.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a paralegal, preferably in civil law.
3. Strong knowledge of civil law procedures, rules, and regulations.
4. Proficient in conducting legal research using various legal databases and resources.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
6. Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
7. Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
8. Proficient in using legal software and computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite.
9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision.
10. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build professional relationships with clients, attorneys, and court personnel.
