Job Summary:
The Legal Advisor is responsible for providing expert legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders regarding various legal matters related to law and criminal justice. The role requires a strong understanding of legal principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts effectively. The Legal Advisor will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop strategic solutions and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis in various areas of law, including criminal justice, civil litigation, constitutional law, and administrative law.
2. Provide accurate legal advice and recommendations to internal stakeholders on legal issues, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
3. Draft, review, and negotiate legal agreements, contracts, and other legal documents, ensuring legal compliance and protection of the organization's interests.
4. Assist in the development and implementation of legal strategies, policies, and procedures to mitigate legal risks and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
5. Collaborate with internal departments, such as HR, Finance, and Operations, to provide guidance on legal matters related to employment, contract disputes, regulatory compliance, and other legal issues.
6. Represent the organization in legal proceedings, including court appearances, hearings, and settlements, when required.
7. Monitor changes in legislation and regulations and assess their impact on the organization, providing recommendations for necessary adjustments.
8. Liaise with external legal counsel, when necessary, to obtain specialized legal advice and support.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Law or a related field. Master's degree or Juris Doctor (J.D.) is highly desirable.
2. Admission to the Bar Association and possession of a valid law license.
3. Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing law, preferably in criminal justice or a related field.
4. In-depth knowledge of criminal justice systems, legal principles, and procedures.
5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal issues and provide practical advice.
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey legal concepts and recommendations to non-legal professionals.
7. Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
8. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in legal research, drafting legal documents, and reviewing contracts.
9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
10. Proficiency in legal research tools, databases, and technology.
11. High ethical standards and integrity, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
