Job Title: Legal Counsel
Job Summary:
The Legal Counsel will provide expert legal advice and support to our organization in matters related to law and criminal justice. As an essential member of our legal team, you will contribute to the overall success of our organization by ensuring compliance with legal regulations, minimizing legal risks, and providing effective solutions to legal issues. The Legal Counsel will handle a variety of legal matters, including contract negotiation, litigation management, and legal research, while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide legal advice and support to the organization on a wide range of legal issues, particularly in the field of law and criminal justice.
2. Conduct legal research to stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and legal precedents applicable to the organization's operations.
3. Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and legal correspondence.
4. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess and manage legal risks associated with business decisions and activities.
5. Represent the organization in legal proceedings, including court hearings, arbitrations, and mediations, as needed.
6. Assist in the development and implementation of legal strategies and policies to protect the organization's interests.
7. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards in all aspects of the organization's operations.
8. Conduct internal investigations and provide guidance on legal compliance matters, including ethical conduct and corporate governance.
9. Collaborate with external legal counsel, when necessary, to ensure effective and efficient resolution of legal matters.
10. Stay abreast of changes in legal and regulatory landscapes that may impact the organization's operations or legal obligations.
11. Maintain accurate and organized legal documentation, including contracts, claims, litigation files, and legal research materials.
12. Provide legal advice and guidance to internal departments, including human resources, finance, and operations, as needed.
Qualifications:
1. Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
2. Active license to practice law in the jurisdiction where the organization operates.
3. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing attorney, with a focus on law and criminal justice.
4. Strong knowledge of laws, regulations, and legal principles related to law and criminal justice.
5. Demonstrated experience in contract negotiation, drafting, and review.
6. Proven ability to conduct legal research and apply legal concepts to complex issues.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate legal advice clearly and concisely.
8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
9. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
10. Sound judgment and decision-making abilities, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
11. Experience handling litigation matters is highly desirable.
12. Familiarity with legal software and research tools.
13. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
