Job Summary:
The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for providing professional counseling and therapy services to individuals dealing with substance abuse issues. This role requires the application of evidence-based treatment techniques and interventions to facilitate positive behavioral changes and promote recovery. The Substance Abuse Counselor will work closely with clients, families, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans.

Responsibilities:
1. Conduct initial assessments to evaluate clients' substance abuse history, mental health status, and treatment needs.
2. Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessed needs, utilizing evidence-based practices and therapeutic modalities.
3. Provide counseling services to individuals, groups, and families to address substance abuse-related concerns and facilitate behavior change.
4. Implement and monitor treatment plans, ensuring client progress and adjusting interventions as necessary.
5. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, physicians, and social workers, to coordinate integrated care for clients.
6. Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, including progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries, in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
7. Conduct regular reviews and evaluations of clients' treatment progress, adjusting treatment plans accordingly.
8. Educate clients and their families on substance abuse disorders, recovery strategies, and available community resources.
9. Facilitate support groups and therapeutic activities to promote relapse prevention and emotional well-being.
10. Adhere to professional and ethical guidelines, ensuring confidentiality, respect, and non-discrimination in all interactions with clients and their families.
11. Participate in ongoing professional development activities to stay updated on research, best practices, and advancements in the field of substance abuse counseling.
12. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, implementing crisis intervention strategies when necessary.

Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
2. Current state licensure or certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (e.g., Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor).
3. Minimum of 2 years of experience in substance abuse counseling or a related field.
4. In-depth knowledge of substance abuse disorders, including assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment approaches.
5. Familiarity with various therapeutic modalities, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and family systems therapy.
6. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and empathetic manner.
7. Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating empathy, active listening, and the ability to establish rapport with clients.
8. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
9. Proficient computer skills, including experience with electronic health record systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
10. Understanding of ethical and legal guidelines governing substance abuse counseling practice.
