Job Summary:
The Special Education Aide will work closely with the Special Education Teacher to provide support and assistance to students with special needs. The role requires a strong understanding of various special education techniques and strategies, as well as the ability to create a conducive learning environment for students. The Special Education Aide will assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and providing one-on-one support to students with disabilities.
Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with the Special Education Teacher to implement educational plans and strategies tailored to the individual needs of students.
2. Provide instructional support to students with special needs by adapting and modifying materials, assignments, and activities as required.
3. Assist in the implementation of behavior management techniques to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
4. Provide individualized attention and support to students during classroom activities, ensuring their engagement and understanding.
5. Assist students with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene, as required.
6. Support students with physical disabilities by assisting with mobility devices and ensuring accessibility within the learning environment.
7. Monitor and document student progress, behaviors, and achievements, providing regular feedback to the Special Education Teacher.
8. Collaborate with other professionals, such as speech therapists or occupational therapists, to ensure students receive comprehensive support.
9. Foster positive and supportive relationships with students, parents, and the wider school community.
10. Maintain confidentiality of student information and adhere to all relevant legal and ethical guidelines.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in special education or a related field preferred.
2. Previous experience working with individuals with special needs, particularly in an educational setting, is highly desirable.
3. Strong knowledge of special education techniques, strategies, and best practices.
4. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and establish trust.
6. Patience, empathy, and the ability to understand and respond to students' unique needs and challenges.
7. Physical stamina and the ability to assist students with mobility or physical limitations.
8. Organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
9. Proficiency in using technology, including educational software and communication tools.
10. Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations related to special education, such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
