Job Description: Learning Support Teacher
Position Overview:
The Learning Support Teacher plays a vital role in providing specialized educational support and guidance to students with diverse learning needs. This position requires a deep understanding of special education principles and practices, as well as the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet individual student requirements. The Learning Support Teacher collaborates closely with school staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure a comprehensive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement customized learning plans, strategies, and interventions to address the specific needs of students with learning disabilities or challenges.
2. Assess and evaluate students' learning abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, using appropriate diagnostic tools and assessments.
3. Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify and differentiate curriculum content, instructional strategies, and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
4. Provide direct instructional support to students, both individually and in small groups, to reinforce learning concepts and promote skill development.
5. Monitor and track student progress regularly, adjusting teaching strategies as necessary, and documenting observations and assessments to inform ongoing intervention plans.
6. Attend Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, contribute to the development of IEP goals and objectives, and provide input regarding appropriate accommodations and modifications.
7. Establish and maintain effective communication channels with parents/guardians, providing regular updates on student progress, individualized strategies, and recommendations for further assistance or support.
8. Collaborate with school-based support teams, including psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists, to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to student support.
9. Stay abreast of current research, best practices, and legislative developments in the field of special education, and apply this knowledge to inform instructional practices and support the professional growth of colleagues.
10. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of student records, progress reports, and intervention plans, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and school policies.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
2. Valid teaching certification or licensure in Special Education.
3. Demonstrated experience working with students with diverse learning needs, such as learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and behavioral challenges.
4. Strong knowledge of special education principles, instructional methodologies, and evidence-based interventions.
5. Proficient in conducting educational assessments and utilizing relevant diagnostic tools.
6. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to establish effective partnerships with students, parents, and colleagues.
7. Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching strategies to meet individual student requirements.
8. Familiarity with Individualized Education Program (IEP) development and implementation.
9. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and policies related to special education.
10. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring accurate documentation and record-keeping.
