Job Description: HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) Engineer
Position: HSE Engineer
Department: Engineering - Chemical Engineering
Reports to: HSE Manager
Job Purpose:
The HSE Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations within the chemical engineering department. They will assess potential hazards, develop and implement safety protocols, and monitor and enforce adherence to HSE policies and procedures. The HSE Engineer will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate risks, minimize environmental impact, and promote a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential health, safety, and environmental hazards in the chemical engineering department.
2. Develop and implement comprehensive HSE protocols, procedures, and guidelines aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
3. Collaborate with departmental teams to identify and assess risks associated with chemical engineering processes, equipment, and materials.
4. Provide technical expertise and guidance to ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental laws and regulations.
5. Conduct thorough investigations of incidents, accidents, and near misses, and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
6. Analyze data and metrics related to health, safety, and environmental performance, and generate reports for management review.
7. Design and deliver training programs for employees on HSE policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
8. Regularly monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of HSE programs and initiatives, making necessary adjustments to minimize risks and enhance performance.
9. Collaborate with external agencies, regulatory bodies, and contractors as required for compliance and incident response.
10. Stay updated with emerging HSE regulations, trends, and technologies, and recommend improvements to enhance the organization's HSE performance.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience as an HSE Engineer or a similar role in a chemical engineering environment.
- In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and relevant industry standards.
- Strong understanding of chemical engineering processes, hazards, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Familiarity with process safety management (PSM) principles and implementation.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Proficient in conducting HSE inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey HSE requirements and procedures.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and build positive working relationships.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Professional certifications in HSE management, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), are preferred.
