Job Summary:
The Process Safety Consultant is responsible for providing expert guidance and support in the field of process safety to ensure the safe design, operation, and maintenance of chemical engineering processes. This role involves conducting thorough evaluations, assessments, and audits of process safety systems and practices, identifying potential hazards, and recommending appropriate measures to prevent accidents and incidents. The Process Safety Consultant collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement effective process safety strategies, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive process safety assessments to identify potential hazards and risks in chemical engineering processes.
2. Analyze and evaluate existing process safety systems, including management systems, procedures, and controls, to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
3. Develop and implement effective process safety strategies and programs to mitigate risks and enhance overall safety performance.
4. Collaborate with engineering teams to review and provide input on process design, ensuring compliance with process safety standards.
5. Provide technical expertise and guidance on process safety issues, including hazard analysis, risk assessment, and incident investigation.
6. Conduct process safety audits to assess the effectiveness of safety measures and recommend improvements as necessary.
7. Develop and deliver process safety training programs to enhance employee awareness and understanding of safety procedures and protocols.
8. Stay up-to-date with the latest industry developments, regulations, and standards related to process safety, and ensure compliance within the organization.
9. Participate in cross-functional teams to support the development and implementation of process safety initiatives.
10. Collaborate with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders as required to ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field. An advanced degree would be an advantage.
2. Proven experience in process safety management within the chemical engineering industry.
3. Strong knowledge of process safety principles, regulations, and standards, such as OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM), EPA Risk Management Program (RMP), and international standards (e.g., API, CCPS).
4. In-depth understanding of hazard analysis techniques, such as HAZOP, What-If, Fault Tree Analysis, and LOPA.
5. Ability to conduct thorough process safety assessments and audits, and recommend appropriate control measures.
6. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify potential risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
8. Proficiency in using process safety software and tools for data analysis, risk assessment, and incident investigation.
9. Knowledge of chemical engineering principles, unit operations, and process design.
10. Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting deadlines.
