Job Description: Structural Engineer (Aerospace)
Position Overview:
The Aerospace Structural Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and testing aerospace structures in accordance with industry standards and regulations. This role entails ensuring the structural integrity, safety, and performance of aircraft components and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and design aerospace structures, including metallic and composite components, assemblies, and systems, to meet project specifications and requirements.
2. Conduct structural analysis using industry-standard software and tools to evaluate the strength, stiffness, and stability of aerospace structures.
3. Perform structural testing, including static, dynamic, and fatigue testing, to validate designs and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including aerospace engineers, designers, and project managers, to ensure seamless integration of structural components into overall aircraft systems.
5. Identify and resolve structural design issues, including weight reduction, optimization, and cost-effective solutions, while maintaining safety and performance standards.
6. Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to evaluate the structural integrity and effectiveness of new designs or modifications.
7. Prepare comprehensive technical reports, documentation, and engineering drawings related to structural analysis, design, and testing activities.
8. Stay updated with industry advancements, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to aerospace structural engineering.
9. Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers, ensuring adherence to best practices, standards, and project timelines.
10. Collaborate with external suppliers and contractors to ensure compliance with structural design requirements and quality standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Proven experience (X years) as a Structural Engineer in the aerospace industry, with a focus on aircraft structural design and analysis.
3. Strong knowledge of aerospace structural analysis software (e.g., ANSYS, Nastran, Abaqus) and proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks).
4. In-depth understanding of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and industry standards (e.g., FAA, EASA, MIL, ISO).
5. Proficiency in performing stress analysis, fatigue analysis, and failure analysis of aerospace structures.
6. Experience with structural testing procedures and interpretation of test results.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to propose innovative solutions to complex structural engineering challenges.
8. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to cross-functional teams.
9. Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy, quality, and adherence to safety regulations.
10. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
