Job Summary:
The Propulsion Engineer (Mechanical) is responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical propulsion systems for various applications in the field of engineering. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and the ability to apply them to propulsion system development. The Propulsion Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of propulsion systems in accordance with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and develop mechanical propulsion systems, including engines, turbines, and related components, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
2. Conduct detailed analysis and simulation to optimize the performance and efficiency of propulsion systems, considering factors such as fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and structural integrity.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, specifications, and constraints to ensure the successful integration of propulsion systems into larger engineering projects.
4. Create and review technical drawings, schematics, and models using computer-aided design (CAD) software to ensure accuracy and adherence to design standards.
5. Conduct thorough testing, validation, and troubleshooting of propulsion systems, identifying and resolving any performance or reliability issues.
6. Perform failure analysis and root cause investigations to identify areas of improvement and implement corrective actions.
7. Stay updated with the latest advancements in propulsion technology, industry trends, and best practices, and apply this knowledge to enhance the design and development of propulsion systems.
8. Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source and evaluate components, ensuring compliance with quality standards and project requirements.
9. Prepare comprehensive technical reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate design concepts, test results, and project status to stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Proven experience in designing and developing mechanical propulsion systems, preferably in the aerospace, automotive, or marine industries.
3. Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and structural analysis.
4. Proficiency in using CAD software, such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar tools, for design and modeling.
5. Extensive experience in conducting analysis and simulation using software packages like ANSYS, MATLAB, or similar tools.
6. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to propulsion systems, such as AS9100, ISO 9001, or equivalent.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically.
8. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
9. Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality in all work performed.
10. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
