Job Summary:
The Piping Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of piping systems within various engineering projects. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the efficient flow of materials and resources, while adhering to industry standards, regulations, and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop detailed piping designs and layouts based on project specifications, process requirements, and safety guidelines.
2. Select appropriate piping materials, fittings, and equipment to meet project objectives and ensure optimal performance.
3. Conduct feasibility studies and analyze system performance to identify potential design improvements and optimization opportunities.
4. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including process engineers, project managers, and procurement teams, to ensure seamless integration and alignment with project goals.
5. Prepare accurate project documentation, including technical drawings, specifications, and material lists, adhering to company standards and industry best practices.
6. Perform stress analysis and calculations to ensure piping systems are structurally sound and meet required safety factors.
7. Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and project meetings, providing valuable engineering insights and recommendations.
8. Coordinate with external vendors, contractors, and consultants to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
9. Verify and approve piping material submittals, ensuring they meet project requirements and regulatory guidelines.
10. Conduct periodic field inspections to monitor the progress of piping installations, identify potential issues, and provide technical guidance if required.
11. Collaborate with the construction team to resolve any piping-related issues or conflicts during the construction phase.
12. Stay updated on industry advancements, codes, and regulations related to piping design and engineering.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
2. Proven experience as a Piping Engineer or in a similar piping design role.
3. Strong knowledge of piping design principles, standards, and codes, including ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, and API 570.
4. Proficiency in using piping design software, such as AutoCAD, Bentley AutoPLANT, or equivalent.
5. Sound understanding of process engineering concepts and the ability to translate them into practical piping designs.
6. Familiarity with stress analysis software, such as Caesar II, and experience in performing stress calculations.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
8. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
9. Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey complex technical concepts effectively.
10. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
11. Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
12. Professional engineering certification (PE) is preferred but not mandatory.
