Summary of Position:
The Hydraulic Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and implementing hydraulic systems and solutions for civil engineering projects. This role requires a deep understanding of hydraulic principles, as well as the ability to develop and evaluate designs, perform calculations, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop hydraulic systems and solutions for civil engineering projects, including water supply and drainage systems, stormwater management, and flood control measures.
- Conduct thorough analysis and evaluation of the proposed hydraulic designs, considering factors such as flow rates, water pressure, pipe sizing, and environmental impact.
- Utilize hydraulic modeling software and other tools to simulate and predict system behavior, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, structural engineers, and environmental specialists, to integrate hydraulic design requirements into overall project plans.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to assess existing hydraulic systems, identify potential issues, and propose suitable remedial measures.
- Stay current with industry advancements and emerging trends in hydraulic engineering, and apply this knowledge to enhance design methodologies and project outcomes.
- Assist in the procurement process by reviewing vendor proposals and providing technical assessments of hydraulic equipment and components.
- Collaborate with project managers to develop project schedules, budgets, and resource requirements related to hydraulic engineering activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience working as a Hydraulic Engineer or in a similar hydraulic design role.
- In-depth knowledge of hydraulic principles and their application in civil engineering projects.
- Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software, such as HEC-RAS, EPANET, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex hydraulic data and make informed design decisions.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to produce precise engineering drawings and calculations.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, collaborating with professionals from various engineering disciplines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex hydraulic concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations, such as ASCE 7, AWWA, and local building codes.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is preferred, but not mandatory.
