Job Summary:
The Rheumatology Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients diagnosed with rheumatological disorders. This role requires expertise in assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients with rheumatologic conditions, collaborating with the healthcare team, and educating patients on self-care and disease management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessing and evaluating patients with rheumatological disorders, including obtaining and reviewing medical histories, conducting physical examinations, and performing relevant diagnostic tests.
- Collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients.
- Administering medications, treatments, and procedures according to established protocols and guidelines.
- Monitoring and documenting patient progress, including response to treatment, adverse reactions, and changes in condition.
- Providing patient and family education on the nature of rheumatologic disorders, treatment options, medications, and self-management techniques.
- Assisting in patient rehabilitation programs, including recommending and coordinating physical therapy and occupational therapy services.
- Participating in research projects, quality improvement initiatives, and professional development activities to enhance nursing practice and maintain up-to-date knowledge of rheumatology nursing.
- Maintaining accurate and complete patient records, including medical history, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
- Adhering to established infection control protocols and ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in [state/province] or eligible for licensure.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or equivalent; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
- Minimum [x] years of clinical experience in nursing, preferably in rheumatology or a related field.
