Job Summary:
The Cardiac Nurse is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients with cardiovascular diseases, ensuring optimal patient outcomes. They collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. The Cardiac Nurse plays a vital role in educating patients and their families about cardiovascular health, disease prevention, and lifestyle modifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assessing patients' cardiovascular health status by collecting and analyzing patient data, conducting physical examinations, reviewing medical history, and interpreting diagnostic test results.
2. Developing and implementing individualized care plans based on patients' physical and psychosocial needs and the prescribed medical regimen.
3. Administering medications and treatments as prescribed, and monitoring patients' responses to interventions.
4. Assisting in diagnostic procedures and therapeutic interventions related to cardiac conditions.
5. Monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and other physiological parameters to detect changes in patients' conditions.
6. Collaborating with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate and manage patient care.
7. Educating patients and their families about cardiovascular disease management, medication administration, risk factor modification, and lifestyle changes.
8. Providing emotional support and counseling to patients and their families, ensuring their understanding of the disease process, treatment options, and potential complications.
9. Documenting patient care activities, interventions, and responses accurately and timely in electronic medical records.
10. Participating in quality improvement initiatives and adhering to evidence-based practice guidelines to ensure the provision of safe and effective care.
11. Adhering to infection control protocols, maintaining a clean and safe patient environment, and promoting patient safety at all times.
12. Collaborating with other healthcare team members to facilitate seamless transitions of care and ensure continuity of patient care.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
2. Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the relevant state.
3. Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic Life Support (BLS).
4. Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in a cardiac care setting.
5. Strong knowledge of cardiovascular diseases, treatments, medications, and interventions.
6. Proficient in assessing, interpreting, and managing cardiac rhythms.
7. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
8. Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
9. Strong organizational and time management abilities to prioritize and manage multiple patient care needs.
10. Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate and patient-centered care.
11. Proficient in using electronic medical record systems and other healthcare technology.
12. Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning.
