Job Description: Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Supervisor
Position Overview:
The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and management of a veterinary medicine facility specializing in wildlife rehabilitation. This role requires a strong background in veterinary medicine, specifically in animal health management, and a passion for wildlife conservation. The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Supervisor will lead a team of dedicated professionals in providing exceptional care and rehabilitation services to a diverse range of wildlife species.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervise and coordinate the activities of the wildlife rehabilitation center, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
2. Develop and implement policies and procedures to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the center's operations.
3. Manage and train a team of veterinary professionals, volunteers, and support staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and respect.
4. Provide guidance and support to veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other team members in diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating wildlife patients.
5. Oversee the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of wildlife species, utilizing best practices and evidence-based veterinary medicine principles.
6. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including wildlife agencies, environmental organizations, and educational institutions, to promote wildlife conservation and rehabilitation initiatives.
7. Ensure accurate and timely record-keeping of all wildlife patients, including medical histories, treatments, and outcomes.
8. Monitor and manage the center's budget, including inventory control, purchasing, and cost analysis.
9. Maintain a safe and sanitary working environment, adhering to occupational health and safety guidelines.
10. Stay updated on the latest advancements and research in wildlife medicine and rehabilitation, incorporating new techniques and technologies as appropriate.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school.
2. Current valid license to practice veterinary medicine.
3. Minimum of 5 years of experience in veterinary medicine, with a focus on animal health management and wildlife rehabilitation.
4. Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse group of professionals.
5. Strong knowledge and understanding of wildlife rehabilitation principles, including triage, diagnostics, treatment protocols, and release criteria.
6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact with team members, stakeholders, and the public.
7. Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
8. Proficient in using veterinary management software, medical equipment, and laboratory diagnostic tools.
9. Demonstrated commitment to wildlife conservation and ethical treatment of animals.
10. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
