Title: Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Technician
Position Overview:
The Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Technician plays a vital role in providing exceptional medical care for animals requiring emergency and critical care services. This position requires a highly skilled individual with a solid background in veterinary nursing and a passion for assisting in life-saving veterinary procedures. The successful candidate will possess the necessary skills to deliver high-quality patient care while working collaboratively with veterinarians and the veterinary nursing team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide immediate and effective nursing care to critically ill or injured animals in the emergency department.
- Monitor and assess patients' vital signs, administer medication, and assist with emergency procedures as directed by veterinarians.
- Administer and maintain intravenous catheters, fluid therapy, and blood transfusions.
- Prepare patients for surgery, assist veterinarians during surgical procedures, and monitor anesthesia.
- Perform laboratory tests, including blood work, urinalysis, and radiography, to aid in diagnosing patients.
- Document and maintain accurate medical records, including patient history, treatments, and progress notes.
- Educate pet owners on post-treatment care and administer medication instructions.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring all equipment is properly cleaned and maintained.
- Collaborate with veterinary nursing team to provide exceptional patient care and assist in training new team members.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a Veterinary Technician Program or equivalent education is required.
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an emergency and critical care veterinary setting.
- Proficient in handling and restraining animals with care and compassion.
- Extensive knowledge of veterinary medical procedures, terminology, and pharmacology.
- Strong ability to assess and respond quickly in emergency situations.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in documenting medical records.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with pet owners and the veterinary team.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
