Position Summary:
The Veterinary Neurology Technician is responsible for providing specialized support to the veterinary neurology team in the diagnosis and treatment of animals with neurological disorders. This role requires a high level of technical expertise and collaboration with veterinarians and other veterinary professionals. The Veterinary Neurology Technician assists in conducting diagnostic procedures, administering treatments, monitoring patients, and ensuring the smooth operation of the veterinary neurology department.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist veterinary neurologists in performing specialized diagnostic procedures, including but not limited to electroencephalograms (EEG), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis.
2. Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinary neurologists, ensuring accurate dosages and proper routes of administration.
3. Monitor patients during procedures, maintaining appropriate anesthesia levels, vital signs, and patient comfort.
4. Collect and interpret laboratory samples, such as blood, urine, and CSF, for diagnostic purposes.
5. Prepare patients for surgery, including surgical site preparation, anesthetic induction, and monitoring during surgical procedures.
6. Perform advanced nursing care, including wound management, catheter placement, and administering intravenous therapies.
7. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting procedures, treatments, and observations in a timely manner.
8. Assist with client communication, providing updates on patient status, explaining treatment plans, and answering questions as required.
9. Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the veterinary neurology department, including equipment, supplies, and treatment areas.
10. Collaborate with other veterinary professionals to provide comprehensive care for patients, participating in rounds and sharing knowledge and expertise.
11. Stay updated with current advancements in veterinary neurology, attending continuing education programs and workshops to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology or related field preferred.
2. Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, LVT) is required.
3. Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a veterinary neurology or related specialty practice.
4. In-depth knowledge and understanding of veterinary neurology procedures, diagnostic techniques, and treatment protocols.
5. Proficiency in performing diagnostic procedures, such as EEG, MRI, CT, and CSF analysis.
6. Strong anesthesia monitoring skills, including knowledge of different anesthetic agents and their effects on patients.
7. Excellent technical skills, including intravenous catheter placement, blood collection, and surgical assistance.
8. Ability to accurately interpret laboratory results and diagnostic imaging.
9. Exceptional attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
10. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, veterinarians, and fellow team members.
11. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
12. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of veterinary neurology.
