Job Summary:
The Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) plays a crucial role in providing high-quality veterinary care to animals in a veterinary hospital or clinic setting. The CVT assists veterinarians and veterinary nurses in a range of medical procedures and treatments, ensuring the welfare and comfort of animals under their care. This position requires a strong understanding of veterinary medicine, exceptional technical skills, and a compassionate approach towards animals and their owners.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conduct various veterinary medical procedures, including but not limited to surgical assistance, anesthesia administration, radiography, dental cleanings, and laboratory sample collection.
2. Monitor and record vital signs, administer medications, and provide post-operative care to animals.
3. Perform diagnostic tests, interpret results, and accurately record findings in patient medical records.
4. Provide assistance during examinations and treatments, including restraint of animals as necessary.
5. Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, medical equipment, and treatment areas to ensure cleanliness and sterility.
6. Educate clients on proper animal care, medication administration, and preventive health measures.
7. Collaborate with veterinarians and veterinary nurses to develop and implement treatment plans for patients.
8. Assist in the maintenance of inventory, ordering supplies, and stocking medications.
9. Provide compassionate care and support to animals and their owners, ensuring a positive experience in the veterinary hospital.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Certification: Must possess a valid certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT) from a recognized veterinary technician program.
2. Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of an accredited veterinary technician program is essential.
3. Veterinary Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of veterinary medicine, veterinary nursing techniques, and animal care practices.
4. Technical Skills: Proficient in handling and restraining animals, administering medications, performing laboratory procedures, and utilizing veterinary medical equipment.
5. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with veterinarians, veterinary nurses, clients, and fellow team members.
6. Organization: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
7. Compassion: Genuine empathy and concern for animals and their well-being, with the ability to handle distressed or difficult situations with professionalism.
8. Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, assisting and supporting colleagues as necessary.
