Job Summary:
The Equine Veterinarian will be responsible for providing comprehensive veterinary care and medical services to horses. This role requires extensive knowledge and experience in equine medicine, as well as strong diagnostic and surgical skills. The Equine Veterinarian will work closely with horse owners, trainers, and other veterinary professionals to ensure the health and well-being of the equine patients.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough examinations, diagnose and treat various equine medical conditions, injuries, and diseases.
2. Perform routine and emergency surgeries, including but not limited to, orthopedic, soft tissue, and dental procedures.
3. Administer vaccinations, medications, and other treatments as required to maintain the health of horses.
4. Develop and implement preventive healthcare programs, including vaccination schedules, deworming protocols, and dental care plans.
5. Collaborate with horse owners and trainers to provide professional advice on nutrition, exercise, and overall horse management.
6. Conduct diagnostic tests, such as radiography, ultrasonography, endoscopy, and laboratory analyses to aid in accurate diagnosis.
7. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of equine patients, including treatment plans, medications prescribed, and surgical procedures performed.
8. Provide emergency on-call services to handle urgent equine medical cases outside regular working hours, as required.
9. Collaborate with other veterinary professionals and specialists to provide multi-disciplinary care and referral services when necessary.
10. Stay up-to-date with advancements in equine medicine by attending conferences, seminars, and continuing education programs.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution.
2. Valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the jurisdiction.
3. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working as a veterinarian with a focus on equine medicine.
4. Demonstrated expertise and proficiency in equine diagnostics, medical treatments, and surgical procedures.
5. Strong knowledge of equine anatomy, physiology, and common diseases.
6. Excellent diagnostic skills and ability to interpret diagnostic tests accurately.
7. Proficient in using diagnostic equipment and tools, such as radiography machines, ultrasound scanners, and endoscopes.
8. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate complex medical information to clients and team members.
9. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple cases simultaneously.
10. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
11. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations.
12. Commitment to staying updated with the latest developments and advancements in equine veterinary medicine.
