Job Description:
The Public Transportation Planner is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing transportation plans to ensure efficient and effective public transportation services. This role involves analyzing transportation needs, designing routes, and coordinating with various stakeholders to enhance the public transportation experience. The Public Transportation Planner will collaborate with government agencies, community organizations, and transportation providers to address transportation challenges and improve accessibility for the public.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Analyze transportation data, including ridership statistics, demographics, and socio-economic factors, to identify existing and future transportation needs.
2. Develop comprehensive transportation plans to optimize public transportation services, considering factors such as population growth, urban development, and environmental impact.
3. Design and evaluate transportation routes, schedules, and service levels to ensure optimal efficiency and customer satisfaction.
4. Collaborate with government agencies, community organizations, and transportation providers to assess and address transportation challenges.
5. Conduct research and stay updated on industry trends, technology advancements, and best practices in public transportation planning.
6. Prepare and present reports, proposals, and recommendations to key stakeholders, including government officials and transportation authorities.
7. Coordinate with various departments and external partners to implement transportation plans, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and budget constraints.
8. Monitor and evaluate the performance of public transportation services, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
9. Participate in public meetings, workshops, and community outreach programs to gather feedback and engage stakeholders in transportation planning initiatives.
10. Ensure adherence to safety standards, accessibility guidelines, and applicable laws and regulations in all transportation planning activities.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Proven experience in transportation planning, preferably in public transportation systems.
3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and identify trends.
4. Proficient in using transportation planning software and tools.
5. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey information effectively to diverse stakeholders.
6. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build relationships with internal and external partners.
7. Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
8. Knowledge of transportation regulations, policies, and procedures.
9. Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other relevant mapping software.
