Job Description: Maritime Transportation Planner
Position Overview:
The Maritime Transportation Planner will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and optimizing the transportation of goods via maritime routes. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure efficient and cost-effective transportation operations. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of maritime logistics, vessel operations, and global trade regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and execute strategic plans for maritime transportation, ensuring efficient movement of goods and adherence to budgetary constraints.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish transportation routes, modes, and schedules that meet customer requirements and optimize operational efficiency.
3. Analyze shipping data and market trends to identify opportunities for process improvement and cost optimization.
4. Monitor vessel capacities, schedules, and port operations to ensure timely and effective execution of transportation plans.
5. Coordinate with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and other external partners to secure vessel space, negotiate rates, and resolve transportation issues.
6. Review and verify shipping documentation, including bills of lading, customs forms, and insurance certificates, to ensure compliance with international regulations.
7. Maintain accurate records of vessel movements, cargo volumes, and transportation costs for reporting and analysis purposes.
8. Stay updated with industry trends, regulations, and technological advancements to enhance transportation planning processes.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
2. Proven experience (X years) as a Transportation Planner, preferably in the maritime industry.
3. In-depth knowledge of maritime transportation operations, including vessel types, container specifications, and port operations.
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify transportation bottlenecks and propose effective solutions.
5. Proficient in utilizing transportation management systems (TMS) and other relevant software to optimize transportation planning processes.
6. Excellent communication and negotiation skills to build and maintain relationships with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and other external stakeholders.
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
8. Solid understanding of international trade regulations, including customs requirements, Incoterms, and hazardous materials handling.
9. Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing shipping documentation and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.
10. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple transportation projects simultaneously.
