Job Description: Logistics Director
Position Overview:
The Logistics Director is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the logistics operations within the organization. This role requires a strong strategic mindset, exceptional leadership skills, and a deep understanding of transportation and logistics management. The Logistics Director plays a crucial role in optimizing efficiency, reducing costs, and ensuring the smooth flow of goods throughout the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement logistics strategies, policies, and procedures to optimize the transportation and distribution process.
2. Manage and coordinate the movement of goods, including planning, scheduling, and tracking shipments to ensure timely delivery.
3. Monitor and analyze logistics performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
4. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as procurement, production, and sales teams, to ensure seamless coordination and efficient logistics operations.
5. Build and maintain strong relationships with external logistics service providers, negotiating contracts and ensuring adherence to service level agreements (SLAs).
6. Oversee the selection, evaluation, and management of logistics partners, including carriers, forwarders, and customs brokers.
7. Continuously assess the logistics network and recommend enhancements to improve cost-effectiveness, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
8. Develop and monitor budgets, ensuring cost control and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
9. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, trade laws, and customs regulations, staying updated on industry trends and changes in logistics practices.
10. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing logistics team, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field.
2. Proven experience (X years) in a senior leadership role within logistics management, preferably in a complex and fast-paced environment.
3. Extensive knowledge of transportation, logistics, and supply chain management principles, best practices, and industry trends.
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
6. Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a track record of successfully managing teams and driving performance.
7. Proficiency in using logistics software and transportation management systems (TMS) to optimize operations.
8. In-depth understanding of customs regulations, international trade, and compliance requirements.
9. Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
10. Detail-oriented mindset and a focus on continuous improvement to drive operational excellence.
