Job Description: Retail Legal Counsel
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Retail Legal Counsel to join our Retail Management team. As the Retail Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and support to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to our retail operations. You will play a vital role in mitigating legal risks, protecting the organization's interests, and promoting ethical business practices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide legal guidance and counsel to retail management on various operational matters, including but not limited to contract negotiations, regulatory compliance, intellectual property protection, advertising and marketing, consumer protection, and employment law.
2. Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including vendor agreements, lease agreements, marketing agreements, and service agreements, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
3. Conduct thorough legal research to stay up-to-date with evolving laws and regulations impacting the retail industry, and advise management on potential implications and necessary actions to maintain compliance.
4. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as the HR department, to develop and implement effective policies, procedures, and training programs that comply with legal requirements and minimize potential legal risks.
5. Handle and resolve disputes, claims, and litigation matters involving retail operations, including managing external legal counsel, conducting internal investigations, and representing the company in legal proceedings when necessary.
6. Advise on data protection and privacy matters, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including GDPR and CCPA.
7. Provide legal support in the development and execution of marketing and advertising campaigns, reviewing promotional materials, and ensuring compliance with advertising laws and regulations.
8. Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and legal developments to proactively identify potential legal risks and provide strategic advice to support the organization's growth and success.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
2. Active license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction(s).
3. Minimum of [X] years of experience as a legal counsel, preferably within the retail industry or related field.
4. Strong knowledge of retail laws, regulations, and industry standards, including but not limited to contract law, employment law, consumer protection, intellectual property, and advertising.
5. Proven expertise in contract drafting, negotiation, and reviewing legal agreements.
6. Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal issues and provide practical, business-oriented solutions.
7. Strong understanding of data protection and privacy laws, including GDPR and CCPA.
8. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage legal disputes and litigation matters.
9. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
10. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
11. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
12. Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality.
13. Proficiency in using legal research tools, databases, and other relevant software applications.
