Job Description: Power Plant Mechanic
The Power Plant Mechanic is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of various mechanical equipment and systems within a power plant facility. This role requires a strong technical background and the ability to work independently and collaboratively to ensure the continuous and reliable operation of power generation equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance tasks, and repairs on mechanical equipment including turbines, pumps, compressors, generators, conveyors, and other related systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical defects or malfunctions using appropriate testing equipment and techniques.
- Conduct regular maintenance activities such as lubrication, alignment, calibration, and cleaning to ensure optimal equipment performance.
- Monitor and evaluate equipment performance, identify potential issues, and propose corrective actions to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
- Follow standard operating procedures and safety guidelines to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain a safe work environment.
- Collaborate with other maintenance and operations personnel to plan and execute equipment shutdowns, outages, and maintenance activities.
- Document all maintenance and repair activities accurately and maintain comprehensive records of equipment history, maintenance schedules, and parts inventory.
- Assist in the procurement and inventory management of spare parts and tools necessary for maintenance and repair activities.
- Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and regulatory changes related to power plant operations and equipment maintenance.
Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a technical training program or apprenticeship in mechanical maintenance or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Power Plant Mechanic or similar role within a power generation facility.
- In-depth knowledge of power plant equipment and systems, including turbines, pumps, compressors, generators, and conveyors.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical malfunctions and defects using various testing equipment and techniques.
- Strong understanding of preventive maintenance practices and ability to perform routine inspections and repairs.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, codes, and standards applicable to power plant operations.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematic diagrams.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various weather conditions.
