Title: Power Plant Environmental Health and Safety Officer

Reports to: Power Plant Manager

Position Summary:
The Power Plant Environmental Health and Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations at the power plant facility. They will develop, implement, and monitor safety programs, policies, and procedures to create a safe working environment for employees and maintain environmental sustainability. The Officer will collaborate with various departments to ensure adherence to applicable regulations, promote a culture of safety, and minimize environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive environmental health and safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with relevant regulations and industry best practices.
2. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, risks, and non-compliance issues.
3. Recommend and coordinate corrective actions to address identified safety concerns, ensuring prompt and effective resolution.
4. Oversee the development and delivery of employee safety training programs, including orientation, emergency response, and hazard communication.
5. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
6. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, documenting findings and providing recommendations to prevent recurrence.
7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and reporting requirements.
8. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
9. Foster a proactive safety culture by promoting employee engagement, awareness, and accountability.
10. Develop and manage relationships with regulatory agencies, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of incidents and compliance documentation.
11. Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures to minimize workplace hazards and environmental risks.
12. Assist in emergency response planning and lead incident management efforts, ensuring effective response and recovery.
13. Prepare and submit accurate and timely environmental health and safety reports as required by regulatory agencies.
14. Ensure proper maintenance and inspection of safety equipment, fire protection systems, and emergency response tools.
15. Collaborate with contractors and vendors to ensure their compliance with safety and environmental requirements.

Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental health and safety management, preferably in the power plant or utility industry.
3. In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA, NIOSH).
4. Proven experience in developing and implementing safety programs, policies, and procedures.
5. Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and provide effective solutions.
6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deliver engaging safety training sessions and prepare comprehensive reports.
7. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
8. Proficient in using safety management systems, incident reporting software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
10. Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) are preferred.
